Blogs and Client Testimonials

June, 2008 — HIGHLANDS RANCH, COLORADO — With enough money, companies can purchase advertisements to say whatever they want about themselves.

Dental marketing and search engine optimization firm Sinai Marketing recently experienced a public relations coup when Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry’s marketing director, Alex Nottingham, wrote a post on the practice’s blog about the success they had gained from Sinai’s SEO and dental marketing prowess. In the post, Nottingham explained that Smile South Florida hired another dental marketing firm to design a Web site for the practice and market it using SEO techniques.

Nottingham began to question the site’s performance in relation to the cost of optimization, and he began the search for another dental marketing/SEO firm that could assist with better optimization techniques.

“Sinai Marketing provided us the service and knowledge to rank high on all our keywords,” Nottingham wrote in the post. “Our sales increased in 2007 nearly $300,000-400,000, and our sales continue to go up due to search engine optimization/positioning.”

It is nearly impossible to assign a dollar value to such a ringing endorsement, Husayni said.

“We know that we aren’t the only SEO firm out there,” he said. “So when a client who hired you to optimize a Web site sings your praises in an unsolicited fashion, you simply can’t put a price on that.”

Marketing expert Dan Kennedy once said, “What others say about you and your product, service or business is at least 1,000 percent more convincing than what you say, even if you are 1,000 percent more eloquent.”

The reason is that advertising often lacks credibility. The company simply is paying to spread a message. Potential clients don’t always believe what a company says through advertising, Husayni said, but they tend to believe what an existing client says about your product or service.

SEO operates on a similar premise. Companies can gain placement by purchasing ads online and buying their way into directories, but achieving first-page status on the major search engines- Google, Yahoo! and MSN- through organic results carries more value and tends to render better results in terms of increased Web site traffic.

Quality, one-way inbound links help a site earn a higher ranking on search engine results.

“When Alex wrote about Sinai Marketing and included a link to our site, that was a quality, one-way inbound link,” Husayni said.

Blogs and the Power of Testimonials

A testimonial from a satisfied client can be a powerful tool for a business, and businesses shouldn’t feel bashful about asking a client for a testimonial, Husayni said
Clients don’t often look for ways to promote a company they do business with, but a satisfied client rarely turns down a request for a testimonial.

In today’s world of social media, particularly blogs, it’s becoming easier to open those communication lines and prepare the way for satisfied clients to compliment companies publicly.

For example, Nottingham used Smile South Florida’s blog as his forum to thank Sinai Marketing for the dental practice’s success.

“Nearly every company with a Web site could benefit from adding a blog to their site,” Husayni said.

In addition to serving as a forum to share information with existing and potential clients, it provides a means for clients to communicate with the company. If they like a product or service, they can say so on the company’s blog. If they don’t like it, they can let that be known, too.

Potential clients can use those blogs to read what others are saying and use that feedback to determine whether to do business with that company, Husayni said.
