Dental Marketing Firm Goes Green

November 12, 2008 — BOULDER, COLORADO — Being green isn’t just for Kermit the Frog. More businesses are jumping onto the “green” bandwagon in an effort to promote conservation in their everyday business practices.

The Boulder, Colorado-based Dental Internet Marketing firm Sinai Marketing recently decided to officially commit to changing some habits to make the company more environmentally friendly, said Founder and President Ali Husayni, a search engine optimization expert.

“I’ve always tried to be ‘green’ and to help our environment and not waste, but the decision to work harder at it as a company was made last month,” Husayni said. “My mother, who is LEED certified in construction, advocates green building and is our partner in the business, suggested that we should go green as a company.”

Everyone should do their part to save the environment, he said. For Sinai Marketing, that means being mindful of the company’s carbon footprint.

“Living in the richest country of the world has spoiled us to the point that we don’t think twice about wasting material and energy, while most of what we use and waste is irreplaceable,” Husayni said. “Going green means not wasting, working to recycle what we otherwise would throw away and saving energy as much as possible.”

Sinai’s first step in going green was ensuring that all the computers are turned off when staff leaves for the day. Employees also have implemented an in-office recycling program for plastic, cans, paper and other waste.

The office stopped printing documents unless it was absolutely necessary, Husayni said.

“Instead of having contracts signed by our clients, now we do this electronically,” he said. “We ask those who want to apply for a position to email their resumes. We’ve also turned off our fax machine.”

Going green sometimes means doing without the latest and greatest in office technology and equipment. Sinai’s office equipment isn’t replaced unless it is absolutely necessary.

“We’re living without new office furniture,” Husayni said. “We want to use and repair things until they no longer function, it no longer is financially feasible to repair the items or we have someone else who could use them.”

In the future, plans include switching the office computers to Apple, “which last much longer than regular PCs,” he said.

The Internet Dental Marketing firm also plans to support clean energy by donating some of its profit to this cause.

On a personal level, Husayni has chosen not to drive his car to work every day. He either takes the bus or rides his motorcycle, which is more fuel efficient than his car.

Going green helps the employees feel as though they’re all doing something to save our planet and to live more naturally, Husayni said. There are some obstacles, however. For example, some employees have a long drive to get to work and riding a bus isn’t an option.

Going green also means being realistic with yourself, Husayni said. It’s not possible for every small business to implement all of the green concepts that exist. Sometimes feasibility and cost get in the way.

“We don’t claim to be 100 percent green, but we’re doing what we can,” he said. “I suppose that’s what everyone needs to do.”

Hey Ali… I come back to say I was seriously thinking about what you’ve talked, you know if I want to be honest it is too hard to be “green”. I really don’t know how I should start. You’ve mentioned something in your article.
    You know…Maybe I could…

It’s not that hard to be respectful of the environment we live in. The concept is about the same as maintaining and cleaning your home. How natural is that?

Earth is our home and by destroying it, we’re destroying where our children will be living in. No species on Earth does more damage to it than human race - and yet we’re the most intelligent of all. It’s a shame.
