January 20, 2008 — BOULDER, COLORADO — Is your Web site bringing new patients for you? If not, then probably it is not found on the top of the search engines for your specific keywords.
Here are some tips to improve your site’s rankings on Google, Yahoo! and MSN. Some of these techniques you can implement yourself, while others will require your Webmaster’s help:
1- Identify Your Keywords
Knowing what keywords your patients are looking for to find you is extremely important. The best free tool to identify your most important keywords is the Google Keyword Selector Tool.
To start, use the “descriptive words or phrases” section. Type in what you think your patients are typing into the Google search box to find your practice. If Google has no data on your specific keyword, then look for what it suggests you should choose. This information will be located further down the page.
For example, Google shows that on average 390 people look for Minneapolis orthodontist each month. So, as an orthodontist in Minneapolis, this would be an ideal keyword.
2- Title Tag
Place your keywords within your site’s title tag.
3- Header
Place your keywords within the header of your site (H1 tag).
4- Content
Your keywords need to be within the content of your site at least once. Do not repeat your keywords more than twice on each page. It could flag your site for spam SEO techniques.
5- Videos
Streaming videos adds great value to your site and attracts people and the search engines. Place some related videos on your site.
6- Out-bound links
Make sure your site is not a dead-end. You should have some links to resource Web sites from your site. Consider what information you can share with your site’s visitors.
7- Directories
Find directories related to your field and include your site in the appropriate categories. Some good online directories include: DMOZ and Yahoo! Search on Google for “health directories” and you can find many similar directories.
When submitting your site to these directories, make sure the link pointing to your site has your keywords in it.
8- Blog
Ask your Webmaster to build a blog for your site and assign someone to update it with fresh content on a regular basis- at least once a week. The blog needs to be part of your Web site and not on a separate domain. You should also link to your site’s pages from your blog.
9- Articles
Ask a good writer to research and write high-quality articles for your practice. Place them on your site and send them to e-publishing companies to reprint it. Make sure the printed articles link back to your site. Do this on a monthly basis.
10- Hire a SEO company to take care of placing your site on the first page. A good SEO company will have the following:
a. Guaranteed results – A SEO company without a good guarantee in place doesn’t know SEO. More specifically, ask about guarantees with Google results.
b. Examples – Ask for at least three successful dental Web sites they have helped. Look on Google for their keywords and see if you can see them on the first page.
c. References – Pick up the phone and call a couple of those references and ask about turn-around time and customer service.

Ali’s mainly made mention of the importance of optimization and web developing but I want to say Link-Building is another necessary part for getting better ranking on search engines which needs a lot of energies and clevernesses.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences I really find them helpful and informative. But let me add one more thing to the above tips: “Inbound Links” both their qualities and their quantities, I liken inbound links to the “road direction signs” which provide Internet travelers with the information needed to find their destination websites.
