Video Streaming and SEO

Tuesday, April 28, 2008 — HIGHLANDS RANCH, COLORADO — Search Engine Optimization experts have identified another avenue for increasing traffic to client Web sites and improving site rankings on Google search results- video streaming.

Videos on Web sites recently started being included by Google and other popular search engines in search results.

“Google experts constantly seek new ways to improve search engine results that will provide Internet users with the most relevant, helpful information,” said Sinai Marketing Founder and President Ali Husayni, a search engine optimization expert.

Those experts recognize that valuable information can be contained in videos, books and even images, as well as traditional outlets, such as news, blogs and general Web site content.

In the competitive dental marketing field, learning a bit about how to maximize the presence of video streaming on a Web site can help professionals gain an edge in the SEO realm.

Ranking a video is much easier to accomplish than ranking a Web site, because there are numerous video sharing sites on the Internet with the power of built-in linking capabilities than can be utilized to a Web site’s advantage, Husayni said.

A video can be posted on any of these sites- such as YouTube, vSocial and Vimeo, to name a few- and it can include a link back to your Web site, he said, adding that videos can serve a similar purpose to blogs, in that they can generate quality, in-bound links back to a Web site.

Google’s search engine techniques remain the gold standard when it comes to Internet marketing. Google purchased YouTube- which was founded in February 2005 and quickly became the most well-known online video site- in 2006 for $1.65 billion in stock. Once it became apparent that SEO opportunities lay in videos, SEO experts agreed that YouTube was the primary place to start getting videos posted and ranked.

Google gathers its search results from different video streaming sites, but YouTube videos appear most often.

“Google is routing visitors to YouTube as a means of promoting the video sharing Web site it owns,” Husayni said. “As an SEO expert, I’m going to attempt to capitalize on that for my clients.”

That doesn’t mean that videos shouldn’t be posted to lesser-known video sharing sites, however. Videos should be posted wherever possible, to make them viewable by a maximum number of people.

Dentists can help improve their videos’ rankings by e-mailing links to their patients and friends and asking those people to forward the videos on to people who might be interested in viewing it, Husayni said. When ranking a video, Google looks at a couple of factors, such as how many comments have been made on the video and how many times it has been viewed.

Besides its ability to improve search engine rankings, a video is a good addition to a Web site because it can help that site stand out among its competitors, Husayni said.

“What you say and how you say it on your Web site largely determines how long visitors will stay on your site and whether they eventually will purchase your product or service,” he said. “Sharing information with visitors in creative ways is sure to get them to stick around and hear what you’re saying.”
